Does anyone know if remote desktop(bundled with windows xp
pro) works with the host pc in standby and the host modem
set to bring computer out of standby? PC Anywhere does not
support this.

I'm new here, but since you have not gotten a response yet, I'll offer my
understanding, that remote desktop will work as you described, assuming all
the software is set up correctly at both ends (client and remote), e.g.
Remote Desktop is enabled on the PC to be accessed remotely, Remote Desktop
Connection software is set up on the client used to access the remote PC,
etc. Details are in Help and Support.

Hi,

How do you propose to make the connection? Is the machine to be left
connected, or are you trying to initiate a dial-up remotely? If the machine
is left connected via the modem, and it is set to bring the system out of
standby, then this should work. There is no way that I know of that you
would be able to initiate a dial-up by using the Remote Desktop, you would
already need to be connected.

I think the OP wanted to wake the remote machine up, using RD as the caller,
and have the remote machine coming up with RD answering.....

I suspect as much too, but the question wasn't totally clear.
