Is there any way to redirect video from a remote desktop to another machine? I have a plasma screen at work, which is connected to a server that is running windows XP pro. Due to security and safety issues with the server, I do not want to allow physical access to the machine. Since the machine has dual monitor capabilities is there a way to connect remotely to the second monitor and display the contents of the laptop?

I'm not quite following what you are saying, but if you are asking if
you can access the second monitor port via RD, unfortunately, this
behavior is not supported. :(

Yes - you can access the primary monitor with Remote Desktop...

but how do i display to the screen? it just displays on the machine i'm using to connect to the server with.

OK, that's the part I didn't understand from your original question...

Are you saying that the plasma screen is connected to the server that
you want to Remote Desktop to?

You might look in the backs of the technology/networking magazines. I
believe some of the KVM (keyboard/video/mouse) switching/remoting vendors
may be able to do what you are looking for, depending on the distances you
have in mind.

http://www.rose.com/

is one vendor of such products.

Yes, the screen is attached to the first video output on the server. When you log in locally on the server, what you see on your monitor is on the screen.

A VPN is useful from the security standpoint.

You have the servers locked in a room for security, but you want some form
of administrative access from the outside. An encrypted VPN tunnel makes
that administrative access more secure.

But I agree--I don't see how it helps with your video issue, which I may not
be remembering very well--I haven't dug back and re-read the whole thread.

A KVM switch can't be used. It is over 300 feet to where the server is
located. Plus the special software that is used would have to be installed
on about 40 different laptops. The company that we bought the equipment
from says to use a VPN. But that is just another form of encryption to
connect to the computer. Right?

here is what we want to do. someone might know of a better way to do this.

desired results: to allow users (who have accounts on the dell) to connect remotely to the dell computer and have their information displayed on the dell monitor.

thanks
