Hunch: DNS has stopped working for you ... either the DNS server, or the
IP address of that Server has changed, or a config change pointing to
DNS on your computer. Or the server name has changed and hasn't yet it
the DNS servers.

Just TCP/IP.

Clearly something about name resolution changed--but what? We'd need to
know a more about the network to say. DNS is a reasonable idea, but netbios
name resolution might be involved.

Well, Browsing the workgroup, the PC resolves by it's name.. how come in RDC
it doesn't ? This is a small home network behind a linksys outer - I am
only trying to connect on the LAN - not the internet side.

Many thanks

Have you changed anything?

For example, for DNS, your machines could be pointing to the Linksys
router's IP, or they could be pointing to the ISP's DNS server(s).

Which are you doing, and has this changed? If the machines are just
automatically configured by the Linksys router, don't worry about that
answer, just say that.

I've never seen this break, but except here at home, my small lans usually
have domains and servers.

Have you made some effort to eliminate netbios as a security precaution,
perhaps?

So.... Computer names on my local network behind a router are reflected in
my ISP's DNS ???

Sorry if this question is.... uhm.. elementary.
