Hi,
I just made a big mistake and need to know if there is any workaround!
:) I remote desktopped in to my "server" at home, which was set up in
my router with the DMZ and port opening. I changed the DMZ and port
opening to the IP of another computer in my LAN hoping to remote
desktop in to it to get a file that I needed. When I went to remote
desktop in again, I discovered the I could not access the intended
computer, as it likely doesn't have remote desktop turned on. Is
there any way that I can get access to the original computer through
remote desktop? I tried putting in the external IP followed by a \ and
then the internal IP, but it didn't work... Any ideas?

thanks,
Branden Durst

Well, to use Remote Desktop you don't need the DMZ enabled on your router
for either local access or remote access. Disable that and simply use the
local LAN IP to call another local PC..

Having the DMZ enabled is a big security risk...

Yeah, I wouldn't have the DMZ enable, but I self-host my website. The
problem is that now I can't get in to any of the computers (I am at a
remote location). Any suggestions?

You can't port forward TCP Port 80 (or whatever your web server is listening
on) through the router and disable DMZ?

No, because when I changed the configuration, I changed the port
forward too :( Yeah, I may have just hosed it up really good!

Why not simply reset the router to the factory defaults and start over so
you can get port forwarding configured correctly?

Because I am not at home so I can't do anything... if i were at home
then I could just log back in to the router and set it back up like it
was... I am on a trip and I needed a file off another computer! :)

The lesson is, don't fiddle with remote end if you are planning to use it
for a bit longer.

Well, I don't know what your going to be able to do if port forwarding is
not working. I think your out of luck until you get home or have someone at
home send you the file in an email/etc.

If its a large file they could use http://www.yousendit.com

Good luck...
