Hi, i have been trying to remote desktop through XP pro, however i am unable. I hear the reason is because my computer is on a network- attached to a hub- and this is preventing the remote desktop.
Please help me with what to do and how
greatly appreciated

i think the problem is that you are connected through a router so the ips are the same for all the computers attached to the router. Sorry but i have no clue how t solve this problem

Well good luck and keep on remoting

Ben,

Are you trying to trying to connect on the local network or from another
location? A hub will not interfere with connectivity, however, a firewall
which did not have port 3389/tcp forwarded to your computers IP address
would.

Kind Regards,

I am attached to a home network. Can you please tell me how to change the firewall port to 3389/tcp ???
thank you

If I understand you correctly you are trying to attach to a home network
from some other site. If that is correct, then you need to make the setting
change on your home router or firewall. Each vendor should have
instructions on their web site which explain how to forward a port. The
process itself tends to be fairly simple. All you have to do is forward
traffic on port 3389/tcp to the private IP address of the PC that should be
accepting the connections. If you let me know what kind of router or
firewall you're using I'm sure I can find the respective web site for you.

If you have multiple machines on your home LAN you can also always try
connecting to the private IP to verify that the PC is set up correctly. A
connection from one PC to another on your home LAN would not require any
port forwarding so long as you use a private IP address.

Kind Regards,

Ben - we need a description of all the devices on your home network between
your machine and the Internet--not great detail--just some basics.

What connects to the Internet?
Is it also plugged into the hub?

In the end, we may need to know the same things about the other location
from which you want to connect--so it won't hurt to tell us a bit about
that, as well--even if you don't know these details.
