Remote Desktop Security

I understand that while using remote desktop the actual
work is being performed on the host computer and that my
key strokes are the only thing passing over the internet
from my client to the host. However the information being
manipulated on the host is necessarily being transmitted
back over the internet so that I may see it on my
laptop. My question is, is this information secure?
Particularly, if I'm doing online banking or some such
can this information be intercepted for the purposes of
ID theft, etc.? If so, is there a way to encrypt it?

The RDP data stream is encrypted. Look at this Resource Kit section for details...

You can also, if you wish, run RD through a VPN tunnel. I sometimes do that as a matter of
convenience with my iPAQ 3835 PocketPC to access/control multiple XP Pro desktops...
