I am setting up 'remote desktop' between a new laptop &
a new desktop.

Both have XP Pro.

I have a 'LINKSYS' NR041 4-port Router which is connected
to my Lan modem.

1 port is connected to the desktop & another port is
connected to my laptop.

I have successfully made a remote desktop connection from
within the office(ibelieve the correct term for this
is 'behind' the router.

However, when I take the laptop home and try to start a
connection, I get an error message.

"The client could not connect to the remote computer....."

I suspect the router needs to have the ports configured
but I do not know where to get the correct port numbers.

Please assist with any help.

If it turns out not to be the router port config., what
else could it be?????????

Thank you for any help.

You need to forward TCP Port 3389 through the router to the private LAN IP of the desktop PC. Call
using the public WAN IP, ie. the IP assigned by your ISP, of the router.
