How do I connect to another computer via remote desktop?
We are both running Windows XP Pro, and we use a
broadband connection, but the other computer is not on my
network. I have the computers IP address, and there
Remote System is set up to accept incoming help. I just
can't get my computer ot connect to it.

I am running a firewall on my end that allows me to talk
to other computers on my network, and in the past I have
been able to get out to another computer not on my
network.

Port 3389 must be open to both machines.

Is the other computer setup to 'Allow Remote Assitance Invitations' or 'Allow Remote User to Connect', this can make the difference. If only the Remote Assitance item is checked you will not be able to connect unless the other computer sends you an 'invitation' to connect to the system. If you need to connect without the use of the invitation feature the other check box under 'Remote Desktop' needs to be checked allowing for any remote user to connect to that specific system.
