This is a very weird problem.
Putting a brand new Windows Server Standard 2008 box into production.
Have it installed and configured. Doing most of the work by using
Remote Desktop from my Vista Enterprise computer. The connection has
been flawless. Up until now...
On the server, I run dcpromo to create a brand new forest & domain.
(the problem shows up)
Now when I attempt to Remote Desktop to the server, I get a
"The credentials that were used to connect to server did not work.
Please enter new credentials."
A google search indicated that perhaps I need to edit the Default.rdp
file and add "enablecredssupport:i:0" as the first line. Did not help
(did not hurt).
I get this same error if I attempt to remote desktop to this server from
one of my other win2k3 servers.
I have tried this both normally, as well as typing in "mstsc.exe /admin"
on the command line.
If I Remote desktop from a WinXP computer, it connects (authenticates)
just fine. Which indicates to me that the problem is NOT on my Win2k8
server box....
