I am having trouble connecting with remote desktop on windows 2000 to an XP
home edition OS.

I downloaded and installed the remote desktop and it seems(?) to have
installed fine. I was then sent an invitation (it hadn't expired) to join
the XP machine, however- when I tried to open the file: rcBuddy.MsRcIncident
I got a "Which program would you like to open this file with.." prompt.
After trying to open it with remote desktop and IE I am stumped. Is there
something I am missing??
I tried the same invitation with another XP machine and it worked fine..

Any help would be much appreciated.

Unless I'm mistaken, you can't connect to a Windows XP
Home machine. Home edition doesn't have terminal services
built in, although Windows XP Pro does.

I have connected to the same machine(running XP home) through another
running XP pro..

You should only be able to connect from an XP home to an
XP Pro machine. The opposite will not work, since XP Home
doesn't have terminal services.

If you need to control HP Home, then you might want to use
VNC or PCAnywhere or NetMeeting. All those programs have
the ability for you to interact the control the client
machine.
