How do I set up the host and client Window XP so that one
can remote login to the other on a local area network?

Hi Martin,

If I understand your question correctly, here's what you need do to:

On the host (The machine you will be remoting into, this works on XP Pro
Only):

Right-click My Computer, Select Properties
When System Properties opens, click on the Remote tab.
Click the check box for "Allow users to connect remote to this computer"
Click Apply, then OK.

On the client (XP Pro or Home Ed):

Click Start | All Programs | Accessories | Communications | Remote Desktop
Connection
Enter the name of the host machine, click Connect
At this point you are ported to the machine and will see the login for the
host machine.

You can also set up properties in the Remote Desktop Connnection to pass
your username and password when you connect, determine what speed you're
connecting, etc. Check out the options and see what works for you.

If you intend to use this often, I'd recommend pinning Remote Desktop
Connection to your start menu:
Click Start | All Programs | Accessories | Communications |
Right-click Remote Desktop Connection, and select Pin To Start Menu.

Now the Remote Desktop Connection is pinned to your start menu for you
easier access.. However, this feature does not work in Classic Start Menu
mode.

Hope this helps!
