Hello,
I have a strange issue:
Environment:
I manage about 100 computers in mixed environment of Windows 98, 2000
and XP on a Windows 2000 Server domain. I have about 5 sites that I
manage. I usually try to work with remote desktop where ever possible
to save time etc.
Problem:
I'm running into problems with some computers on the network. It seems
that I'm not able to connect to them from my administrative computer.
However I can connect to them from other computers on the site. And I
can "play hop scotch" and log on to a computer that works at that site
and then log on to the problem computer.
Potential Causes:
There a few potential causes that I have identified and eliminated.
1) I know remote desktop is enabled on the problem computer because I
can connect, just not directly using my computer.
2) I know that my computer is working with remote desktop; I use it
flawlessly every day.
3) I think the issue could be a networking problem, but I'm not sure
what would definitively tell me that. We do use routers/firewalls...but
why does it work for some and not others? And if it were a firewall
issue I would think that I would not connect at all.
4) I have turned off Windows Firewall through domain policy and enabled
remote desktop through domain policy. This seems to be fine for all but
a few computers.
Can anyone give some clue as to what is happening here?
Thank you!
Jeremy
