Dear Jeff,
Thank you for your posting.
According to your post, target computer will lose video after you installed
WMP9 and Windows Updates.
If I have misunderstood your concern please don't hesitate to let me know.
1. To confirm if it's related to target computer, you may find another
computer to connect it and then narrow down the problem scope.
2. If problem occurs only on the computer with WMP9 and Windows Updates
installed, to purify the troubleshooting environment, I suggest that you
perform a test with "Load Startup group items" unchecked.
a. Click Start => Run => msconfig
b. Check the "Selective Startup" option, and then uncheck the "Load Startup
group items" only.
c. Reboot your computer to test the situation.
If the video loss problem no longer occurs after that, I suggest the
following further troubleshooting steps:
a. Click Start=>Run=>msconfig.
b. Click the Startup tab, you will see a list of EXE files.
c. Divide the options into two approximately equal groups - one group of
unchecked options and one group of checked.
d. Restart your computer and test for the problem. If the problem occurs,
then the problem cause is included in the checked group. If the problem
does not occur, then the culprit is in the unchecked group.
e. Repeat this technique on the appropriate group until you have isolated
the faulty program entry.
f. Record its name and then click OK. Go to Control Panel, and then remove
this program from Add/Remove Programs.
g. If the problem still remains after that, click Start and then point to
Run.
h. Type regedit and then hit OK.
Navigate to My
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run,
find the key in the right pane and delete it.
Note: The EXE file can also be in the following place, confirm it's not
there please.
My
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnc
