I have two computers at work on the same LAN that I want
to run at home using Remote Desktop. One works great.
The other won't work at all. The problem machine:

W2K upgraded to WinXP

My Computer-Props-Remote-Allow users to connect... is
checked. Usernames are added, they exist on the remote
computer, they are in the Remote Desktop Users group on
remote computer.

gpedit.msc shows both Solicited Remote Assistance and
Offer Remote Assistance group policies are enabled. Users
are listed under the 'Show' property of permitted logons.

I have tried it with Simple File Sharing enabled and
disabled, makes no difference.

I get the error "The local policy of this system does not
permit you to logon interactively" even though the above
settings should eliminate this problem per KB-289289. I
get this error even using an administrator logon.

I am tsmith at trexlerhainesgas dit com.

I found the answer elsewhere on this site. Run gpedit.msc
(see KB289289). Expand computer configuration - windows
settings - security settings - local policies - user
rights assignments - allow login through Terminal
Services. Add to this group the users who should be
allowed to logon remotely to this machine.

This appears to be needed on machines that are upgraded to
WinXP Pro, but not needed on machines that have a clean
install of Win XP Pro.

Fixed my problem.
