I have recently updated a XP Home machine to XP Pro and configured it for
RDC. Everything worked great. However, after a few hours of the machine
being idle I can't get into it. The firewall is off, power settings are
configured properly, and the welcome screen and fast user switching are
unchecked. I also have another pc set for RDC on the same network that never
experiences any issues. I can bounce the machine and everything works great
again until it sits unused for a while. Any ideas on how to troubleshoot
this problem? Thanks...

When you say "the power settings are configured properly", does that
also include disabling "allow Windows to turn off this device when not
in use" for your network adapter? If that doesn't sound familiar to
you, find the option in the device's properties (Power Management tab)
in Device Manager.

Yes, that all looks good. I left out the part where I get a reply when I
ping it. I can also telnet into it. If it were a power settings issue I
don't think I would be able to do either. Any other ideas? I appreciate the
feedback.

Then I'm sorry but without looking at the machine, I don't know. See if
there are any clues in Event Viewer. Start>Run>eventvwr.msc [enter]

There is a microsoft.public.windowsxp.work_remotely newsgroup. Perhaps
the posters there would have an idea for you.
