I have a laptop with Windows XP running Remote Desktop
connecting via IP address to a Windows 2000 Advanced
Server. Is there a way to transfer files between the two
machines? It would be nice if I could see the laptop
hard drive when I bring up Windows Explorer in the Remote
Desktop session.

Not a problem just map a drive back to the laptop.

Check that "File and Printer Sharing" is bound to the connection on the
laptop. Control Panel|Network|"connection"|Properties. Then share out the
resources as desired.

Paul,

Terminal Services in Windows 2000 does not support what you want natively, unlike Windows XP and Windows 2003. I
would only do the drive mapping that has already been suggested if both your laptop and the server or connected to the
same LAN and we are not connecting over the Internet.

You might want to look into the Windows 2000 Resource Kit utility Drive Share. You can find more on this with the following
article.
