A user has a home remote desktop server setup on an XP- fully patched and
updated, but I checked the encrytpion level and it is 'not configured' I
changed it to 'high' . Question is - What is the encryption level and
security in general for 'Not configured'. he doesnt have a domain or any
GP. I just upgaded his remote desktop , so he was using the previous
version.

Thanks

I believe "not configured" equates to a 'client compatible' mode, ie. if a
64-bit TSC like a PocketPC connects then that is the encryption level or if
a 128-bit client connects, like another XP PC, then that is the encryption
level. Personally I always manually set my host encryption level to high.
With Vista to Vista RDP sessions I also specify the use of NLA.

If you go into the group policy editor on an XP Pro box and highlight the
encryption policy you will see an explanation...

this guy set it up himself. Im wondering how easy it would have been to
crack. He didnt have any password lockout policy, so I was a bit worried
when he told me his PC has been acting strange lately.
