I have computer A at 1 location and computer B at a different location, not
on LAN, we both use broadband/DSL and I was wondering if Computer A can
connect to computer B via the internet connection?
If so could someone be so kind as to refer me to an article as to how to
make the connection possible.

Thank you in advance.

Sure you can do that. See this page for help. Be aware that Computer B must
be running XP Pro/MCE or Vista Ultimate/Business/Enterprise in order to
access it via Remote Desktop.

Thank you for the quick response, what do I need to do to the system that I
am trying to connect too? For example using PcAnyware you would setup the
accessible PC to HOST, then you can connect or find the PC on the Network,
what about the HOST PC in remote desktop? I did not see any info as to this I
only saw how to connect too.

Thank you

Perhaps this will be clearer...

Basically you need to...

1. Enable Remote Desktop on the host PC (see above link)
2. If the authorized users are not administrators on the host PC you need to
add them to the Remote Desktop Users Group (see above link)
3. All users are local to the host PC.
4. All users must have a password.
5. If the host PC is behind a router or firewall then you need to open TCP
Port 3389 to the private static LAN IP of the host.

http://theillustratednetwork.mvps.o...pSetupandTroubleshooting.html#Port_forwarding

6. Call using the public IP of the host, ie. the IP assigned by the host
ISP.

Its all there on the page I pointed you to...

thank you very much, sorry I must have missed it.
Once again thank you for your help it is appreciated.

sorry if this is a double post,

I am still having connection problems.
Since I have DSL at the host I downloaded and installed on the host the
No-IP software, this connects and resolves,
created the host which attaches to my DSL's IP address. I opened ports on my
firewall TrendMicros PC-cilin 80 and 3389, but the remote computer can not
connect. I have disable the firewall on the host all together and still no
connection. I did add the user name to the host's remote connection option
with admin rights, in my network setup (host) i have TCP/IP only no netbios
as protocols. I have enable logging at the host PC and it shows no activety
as to attemps for the remote computer to login.

Can you make any suggestions,

Thank you

Its possible the DSL modem is also a router. If so you need to put the modem
into a bridge or pass through mode. What modem and what ISP? You may have to
contact your ISP for help if the modem was configured by them. At the very
least check the modem manufacturers support pages or the users manual for
help doing that. You can test to see if TCP Port 3389 is being blocked by
going to the http://www.canyouseeme.org site while logged onto the host PC.

The ISP is Bellsouth or ATT now, the Modem has NAT and other features but not
enabled, the modem is a Westel 6200, On the LAN I have 3 computers attached
via hub which gets a DHCP address from the modem, 1 laptop running Win2K and
the others are desktops WinXP pro. I did do a netstat =a and port 3390 is
listening.

Thanks again

So did the canyouseeme.org test pass or fail?

I got it to work, when the username and password comes up to login, I had to
type in the workstation name before the user id, "wkstID/username" then I got
in OK.

I can not thank you enough for your help on this issue.

I do have another issue though, I have a 16 bit app that runs from a command
prompt, to make this full screen at the WS I do a ALT+ENTER, I can not seem
to do this while in remote mode, I thought that their was a way to do this.

Once again TYVM,,

Steve
