remote desktop connection not working

I am trying to connect from my home with Windows XP Home to my office via VPN and Remote Desktop Connection. I have been able to set up the VPN, but when I type in the computer name in Remote desktop, I get a message that it can't connect to the host (too many users on the system, I don't have permission, or a network failure). I have gone over this with my IT guys, and they have assured me that I do have permission, that the host has unlimited connections, and that the network is not failing. In fact, about 3/4's of my company connect this way at any one time.

I have disabled every firewall I can find, and it still doesn't work. I can ping the host without any problems.

Any ideas would be much appreciated!

What is your VPN server? if it is a Professional or Home there will be a
limitation on the Remote Desktop connections.

Hi Beth,
Having the 'same' problem... at one site. Others work, jeez.
I have made sure that the 'workgroup' for both machines is the same.
I have made sure that there is a user (identical) on each machine.
I have made sure that the 'server/host' machine is booted and user
logged in, working on the LAN.
I have disabled all/any non-essential programs (like messenger that
sometimes run) -
So far, I don't have a solution for this one site. I've set up these
many times, but no 'joy' here.

Watching your responses.

I will have to check with IT tomorrow. It is either Windows XP Professional or an earlier version - I know for sure that it is not XP home

A friend of mine also thought that there might be some type of licensing issue between my XP Home and whatever we are running at work, but the guys at the office didn't think so. Any thoughts

I will get back to you soon. Thanks
Beth
