remote desktop connect doesn't

from a few days ago, danny counts reported the same problem
I am having connecting to a win2000 server in another city.

The message:
The client could not establish a connection to the remote
computer. The most likely causes are for this error are:

1. Remote connections might not be enabled at the remote
computer. (It is enabled and 10 people are currently
connected) I too can connect with one xp pro machine.
2. The maximum number of connections was exceeded at the
remote computer. (This is not the case as I have
unlimited number of connections and can login in several
times on my older system) ditto.
3. A network error occured while establishing a
connection (yet IE works fine).

I have the same problem with two xp home client computers
that could attach before. ONLY ONE thing changed!! The
computers got Windows Updates (serv.pck 1a??) Since the
updates are not listed by date they install. We don't
know which updates broke the RDC. Does microsoft know?

I've been told it is a licensing issue, but why could they
connect before? Help! thanks.
 
HI. Yes. Besides one other computer attaches ok. We discovered it is not a Win XP home issue. The computers have XP pro. Plus a new XP pro computer wouldn't attach either. At the time we are trying to connect there are NO other users attached via RDC. So where exactly do you look for the state of the license?? Thanks. shery
