Dan (Still going in circles)

Hi All,
I don't know if I have the right NG, maybe someone can help me.
I want to run the Remote Desktop on my XP Pro system, I have the IIS
files installed but I also want to use my system for a small Web page,
maybe several pages. I need this for college and the college does not
provide any harddrive space. I have over 80 gig's of harddrive avail
if I need it. I donot need to have a mail server unless it is
required to have a small web page.
If I can set this up as I want, then I won't have to go to one of the
sites on the net and pay for harddrive area.
IF you can help, or send me where I can help, I would greatly
appreciate it.
Thanks.

Dan,

IIS is not required to access your computer via Remote Desktop. The TSWEB
portion of IIS is primarily intended for use when you need to access your
system, via Remote Desktop, from a computer that does not have the Remote
Desktop Client installed. Once you successfully authenticate via the web
interface, the Remote Desktop ActiveX control is downloaded to the "guest"
computer.

And since you already have the TSWEB components installed, you aleady have
IIS installed, so your web server is there. And no, you don't need the SMTP
server installed to run the web server component.

Your web server is available by typing in http://localhost in IE's address
bar, or from outside your computer by http://<youripaddress>.

However, if you're accessing the internet via the college's network, your
webserver may not be accessible to the world, outside of the college's
network.

If you have more specific questions, ask them.

A couple of good starting points are:

Doug,
Didn't want to keep you hanging as to how it's going. Right now it
isn't. When I put in my IP address I don't see my PC. I guess I
first should say I do not live on campus. My college classes are done
on line. It is a real kicker but very indepth. Anyway, I need to
figure out how to get pass the firewall I have set up both with my hub
and with zonealarm. In the zonealarm, I have just entered the ip
addresses as I can not figure out how to forward ports with it. This
is the basic zonealarm. On the hub, I have the IP and the ports
forwarded and the same on my modem (router). Tomorrow morning I will
hook the PC straight to the Modem(Router) and when I get to work see
if I can get into the pc, if I can't, I have "gotomypc" and I will go
in and turn off the zonealarm and see if I can through. If I can't,
then logging into my home PC with "gotomypc", I will log into my home
Modem and see if the ports and IP are still correct. If they are,
then I have no idea what I will do...:)
I will keep you posted.

Dan,

You need to set ZoneAlarm to pass traffic on port 3389. Since that's a
software firewall, that runs on the computer you're trying to access,
there's no "forwarding" involved.

For the router, you need to forward port 3389 to the IP address of the
machine that you're trying to access. If you use DHCP for IP address
assignment, you may want to switch to Static IP addressing, so that the IP
of the Remote Desktop Host machine doesn't change.

Doug,
Thank you for the information, but I still am stuck. Right now when
I input the localhost in the IE and I get the following error
"The page cannot be displayed
The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site
might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to
adjust your browser settings. "
What I would like to do is make my own homepage and when someone
enteries my address, they get this web page and as time goes on I will
need to add additional pages.
I guess what I really need is some kind of a manual, book or guidance
on how to actually set up my pc to be used as a web server.
Anything you can help me with would be greatfully appreciated.
