Tom Kimberly

I'm preparing to help my daughter remotely. My test is
PC (XP) and Laptop (w987 w/ XP Remote Desktop loaded.)
Both are connect to the internet via a Linksys EtherFast
Router. I can remotely access the PC from the Laptop, but
not the inverse. Error is 'Client cannot connect to the
remote computer'. This means, I believe that contact is
made, but permission is not granted by the remote. I have
re-checked user and passwords and enabled shared files
and printers on the appropriate computer to no avail.
Any suggestions? tk

Tom ... you can RD from a Win98 Client to an XP Host but not the reverse.

I have the same setup as yours with an XP Desktop and a Win98 laptop, and I
use a free program called 'UltraVNC'. It will allow you to connect via
TCP/IP to any non-XP Client and vice versa. Works fine and allows file
transfer, chat screen, etc. and is available for download at:
http://ultravnc.sourceforge.net/

You didn't indicate if your daughter had a static or dynamic IP address, but
if it's dynamic she'll have to call you to give you her current IP address
so you can call her computer. The only 'catch' is if she's using a firewall
.... she'll then have to set it up to allow your IP address to connect.
