Remote database not working

I had the embedded tools and database installed on a machine that failed. I
copied the repositories to another machine, installed the database engine on
that machine and used osql to inform the engine where the database was. All
indications are that this worked. I then installed the tools (TD, CD, CDM)
on a third machine and told CDM to use the remote database; CDM reports that
it cannot attach to it.

Are there any diagnostic tools available to confirm that the database is
actually running? Any other advice to get this running?

Thanks for your help.

Hi Dean,

Thanks for bringing this back to the top, I had lost track of our previous
thread.

Just out of curiosity, can you install the tools and connect to the database
on the machine that you connected the DB with osql? If so then maybe it's a
windows firewall or other networking issue?

Brad,

Good point. Yes, I installed the tools on the database machine, and CDM can
see the repositories and components from the imported database.

I can't think it's a networking issue, because:
1. Both machines are on the same segment with nothing but hubs and wire
between them;
2. Both machines are running 2000 server with no software firewalls;
3. I can attach a network drive from the tool machine to the database
machine, which proves I can get to it and have permission to use it.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks for your help,
Dean
