Remote connection slow all of a sudden

I have been using RDS with WinXP Pro for about 6 months.
I connect to my home machine from work, and I have a cable
modem and Linksys wired router at home.

Last week we had a power outage, and since then my RDS
connections have been very slow and it often takes many
tries just to connect.

I have tried all the obvious things to fix this (power-
cycling the router, etc.)

Anyone have any suggestions?

Sounds like a slow connection problem. It could be that the power outage
caused a problem with your cable provider's hardware.

One way you can check is to ping your home machine from work - from a cmd
window: ping <ipaddress>
If the time to reply is large (20ms or larger), this is likely your problem
and you should contact your cable provider.
