remote assistance

I was trying to help a freind by using remote assistance, we are having the
following problem.

when I click on the invitation to use remote assistance I get 2 new windows,
the 1st says "remote assistance loading" then the second says "remote
assistance -- webpage dialog" across the top and under it " remote assistance
failed. please try again."

we tryed uning both an email invitation as well as a messenger invitation
the results were the same on both.

friend has a dialup connection, and I am on a router with a dsl connection.
