I know this really has no tie into the spyware program but
this pc won't allow me to post elsewhere because of the
proxy im on...anyway...with msn messenger i realize that
you have to have windows messenger (im not sure which
version) but i really need to be able to remote assist
some of the pc's on my network via msn messenger. does
anyone know which version i need and possibly get me the
url for a download of that version.

If you are on the same network, you don't need an IM at all. You should be
able to pass the invitation by email, or even by placing the invitation file
on a network storage facility accessable to both the client machine and the
expert.

In fact, if your network is set up as a domain, and the expert is an
administrator in the domain, you can use the "offer remote assistance"
feature to remove the need for the invitation file.

Search help on that term for more info on how to do this.

You can post, via HTML in a group where this discussion would be on topic,

Actually the domain is through my ISP. I have the 5
computers at my house on a network yet all independent. so
no server the dhcp comes from my isp. all the computers
are running msn messenger version 6.2 i believe yet not
all have windows messenger installed. the users
communicate through msn messenger and sometimes require
remote assistance. i know that msn has that feature but
you need a certain version of windows messenger to use it.
i know i could set up a vpn but this would be much faster
i think. if you find that windows messenger version that i
need that would be great...thanks

The above link is for 5.1. I am on 4.7, and it has the link for Remote
assistance.

However, in your case, I believe that remote assistance will work better if
you pass the invitation file by either Email, or by using a common file
location. I suspect that Windows Messenger won't work properly for your
intended usage, which is probably why you are asking this question.

You can also use the file transfer capability in an IM app to pass the
invitation file--that should work as well as email.

Try one of those methods--file transfer via IM, email, or common file
storage location. You may want to simply create a location on your machine
and keep invitations for all the other machines there--they'll need to be
renewed monthly or so, but you can just double click on them when needed.

The reason I believe that the IM invitation method will not work for you is
that I believe that mechanism will try to pass addresses which are intended
to work across the Internet, and you need to be passing the internal IP
addresses or names behind the nat/router, since all the machines are on the
same LAN.
