I have been trying to get remote assistance to work between 2 computers in
my office. I don't have any problem with the invitation process, but once I
am connected as the person providing support, I do not see how I am
suppossed to be able or be given permission to "control" the remote system.
The status just indicates "screen view only" and there does not seem to be
any way for the remote person to grant access. I am using XP Professional
on my system and XP Home on the remote system (that is asking for
assistance). I have checked the setting on both systems that is supposed to
allow the computers to be controlled remotely with this program (somewhere
in System Control Panel applet).

Anyway, any help would be appreciated on this one.

there is a button next to one of those check marks in the
remote controll tab that says "select remote users" press
it and see what you can do with that. not sure how home
will respond to you tring to add users into that (if it is
even there)

On the expert side (the one providing help) window, there is be a button
"Take Control", click it and Novice (the one asking for help) will show/ask
permission for control, if this button is disabled, you can check group
policy on Novice side

gpedit.msc -> Computer Configuration -> Administratrative Templates ->
System -> Remote Assistance

Double click on "Solictited Remote Assistance" and check "Permit remote
contorl of this computer"

One good source for this is at

Hope this help.
