I am trying to connect with a friend to work together
learning some software. I want him to connect to my
computer with app sharing etc. But we are not having any
luck with either remote assistance or remote desktop. I
have enabled both and we have tried via email and
messenger. My computer is running windows xp pro connected
to the internet through Charter Pipeline in California. I
have the computer hooked up physically to a cisco systems
linksys wireless-g broadband router that is connected to a
surfboard modem. My friend's specs are as follows - windows
XP home, AMD 2400XP, 512 megs pc 2700 RAM, North Carolina
Roadrunner cable service. I have disabled the firewall
settings in windows. We send each other invitations via
messenger and the sharing session window opens but it hangs
on "Waiting...". I would appreciate any suggestions on how
to resolve the issue so he and I can get to work. Thanks.

If either or both of you are behind a firewall/NAT/router then forward TCP Port 3389. You also might
try using the file method of invitation and modify the RCTICKET field in the file to include the
public IP of the Novice PC.

This talks about forwarding to multiple computers - ignore the
multiple machines and follow the instructions on how to forward with a
Linksys router.
