OS Windows XP SP1 (home)
Came with package deal from HP, 304w. Two HP system
restores have made shining stars out of advertisement
programs and reduced my OS to begging for proper files.
At boot-up I need pwif2 according to "event notifications"
also, SystemRoot\System32NTOSKRNL.EXE. What this has to do
with a puny little non-networking PC like mine I don't
know. Both of the above "failed to load". Other problems
are accessing the full range of MS_DOS alternatives
supposedly available. IE...I can open a 16 bit
DOS_Application and It closes immediately with no error
recorded. The DOS window is just a flicker on my screen. I
can open DOS_PROMPT, or command prompt, but I am limited
to what I can do or what is accessible although I am
logged in as "owner" and have full accessibility rights.
16 bit apps do not work aT ALL. I have very limited access
to "administrator" and "NT_AUTHORITY"_SYSTEM" files yet I
am the sole owner and user of my system. I am just
learning about this crap and in the most overwhelming and
hectic way....when a problem arises, I try to fix it. But
a recent brush with a W32blaster worm caused me to run two
seperate, HP, system restores and I attempted to
delete "Administrator\documents and settings\"
with "Kremlin wipe" set to "Blowfish". In other
words..unrecoverable. I have run windows system file
checker numorous times and since then have manually
recovered(98 DLL'S) still missing two, and several system
files. I am at a loss to know what other damage i have
caused since my access seemes to be limited. I know that
all hardware is working fine and associated drivers.
My problem seems to be in the boot-up procedure and
judging from the many options out there to rectifying you
boot-up procedure in WinXP I am not thrilled. Considering
I cant get my MS-DOS system to work properly.
I have jillions of records and I look at a few in an
uneducated manner and i can't make heads nor tails of my
problems.
I need someone who has studied windows XP extensively and
knows where to look for what.
I am willing to participate fully. I have downloaded the
recent Microsoft "symbols" debugger apperatus and am
anxious to share any findings directly to those
responsible for helping me fix this problem.
