Remote Assistance error connection

Hello all

I seem to be having one blazing fun time with other people connecting to my pc using remote assistance. I can connect to other my buddies computers but they cannot to mine. This is what I have tried to correct the issue so far...

Disabled firewalls
Checked to see what services were needed (although I'm still not sure) to run remote assistance.
Check the remote tab, only the top option is checked, not remote desktop.

I have used msn to connect and recieve the remote assistance calls. Oh, I do have one issue not being able to put a password in when I send a email invitation out...maybe thats my issue but I dont know what service it needs because it says a service has been stopped.

Can anyone lend some insight to what I'm overlooking here.

Thank you to everyone. I'm going  on this issue.

Just like to add i was reading that it could be a Group policy issue.

How and what do I need to check for this.

Quote from the article.

Before the Expert is allowed to connect to the Novice computer, the Group Policy Settings are checked. If the Policies do not allow the Novice to receive Remote Assistance the connection is refused.

Heres the article link.

ok:)

What happens when you click on "help", then "remote assistance"? Does it show any open invitations?

Which firewalls do you have active, if any?

Well I request using msn messenger so there probably wont be any open invitations there unless I use the email method.

When I do use the email method yes there is open invitations there from when I request using my pc.

I have norton 2002 internet security and the winxp firewall. Both are disabled, I never even use the winxp firewall.

I'm not sure what your problem is if it isn't your firewall.

Something that might work would be to log on as the administrator in safe mode, and give that a try. If it is a group permissions problem, it should hopefully work in this mode :)

Ok I will try that now.

Do you know what services remote assistance requires for it to work?

or

Would you know how to configure a rule for notron 2002 to allow port 3389..not sure if outbound or inbound or both.

SAfe mode with or without networking support didnt work. :(

i've tried and tried with problems with remote assistance, theres a thread somewhere in here that i was looking into, have search for it if may have some ideas that will work for you. i personnally think it's quicker to walk round and help the person after the amount of probs i've heard people having with it, it works ok for me!

Remote Desktop Connection

I am having a difficult time setting up a remote desktop connection. I am running XP Pro SP2 on both laptop and desktop. The desktop is physically connected to my modem, the laptop runs wirelessly. I have a linksysWRT54G router.

I would like to remote connect to the desktop.
I have enabled/opened port 3389 on my router.
I went to "what is my ip.com" to find the IP address for the desktop;
If I try that from the laptop (or a computer from work) I get an error saying remote connection may not be enabled or the computer is too busy.
I have enabled remote desktop from the properties of 'my computer' on both machines.
I also tried setting up a static ip address at no-ip.com
I have passwords set up in my user profiles.
I am out of ideas of how to make this work.... any suggestions and solutions would be greatly appreciated!
thanks

Get it fixed yet? Usually the DCOM Service not being started or the RPC service not having the Logon As changed to "Local Admin Account". =)
