Remote and Computer webs are different

Really having a hard time understanding parts of Front Page. I have two
questions...

I made a copy of my web and put it on a different computer. When I attempt
to publish the web, leaving my settings in Options (indicating to publish
changed pages only and determine but comparing webs) it tells me all the
pages on my main web need to be published, but not my subweb. When I switch
it to say look at the dates, it tells me only the subweb needs to be
published. And, when I look at the dates, the dates on the remote web are
more recent than on my computer so it shouldn't be saying to publish those
from my computer because they are older. Any suggestions?

Now, because I couldn't understand why the above was happening, I decided to
try to publish the remote web to my comptuer and start from there, as the
remote web seemed to be working correctly. However, after I did that, and
started making changes to it using my computer version I noticed that some of
the Back links that work on the remote web don't show up on my computer web.
Why would that be when I published directory from the remote to my computer.
And, how can I add just the Back link back to my computer web. Is there a
way I can be sure that both versions are the same and that this isn't the
only difference I've noticed?

Thanks very much for any assistance... I'm determined to try to understand
FrontPage with no one locally to assist!

You need to always publish between location, never copy a web from one location to another. Do a
full publish from the live/remote to each PC, then publish again from live/remote selecting Change
Pages Only option. This should ensure that all locations are the same.

Thanks very much for the info, and that's exactly what I did (finally!) but
it doesn't answer why the remote and local web are different when I published
from the remote. On the remote web, after clicking a link in the header bar
and opening a new page, on that new page is a "back" link. On the local web
(after publishing from the remote web) there is no "back" link.

Is your home page name the same on both your local and the live/remote server?

The website is www.jrleaguewilm.org. They both use Index as the opening
page, but when I look in the navigation for one it says Home and in the other
it says Index. The actual site uses Home I believe, but I don't now why when
I published to my computer that it didn't actually pull what it was using.
And, would this then be the only page that didn't come over the same or could
there be more? I would like to get the exact web from the internet so I can
kind of start from scratch rather than wondering, every time I do a publish,
if I am going to make something else work incorrectly as a result. I thought
by publishing from the web to my computer that's what I was doing...

Thanks so much for your help.

I think you just have Navigation messed up where you set it up. It can be very confusing at times using FP's automatic thing...child, child under home, global etc.
