Hello All,
I have windows 2000 advanced server and a xp workstation. On the workstation I have the active directory module so that I can access the server's active directory information from my workstation. I can change passwords, disable accounts, etc. However I find I can't change the description of a computer from here though. I have to log on to the server and go to active directory from there. Is there a reason I can't do it from my workstation? Is there a way to do it? It is a pain going to the server for little stuff like that. Also, how about group policy? I can't do it from my workstation either. Everything else seems to work (except of course for exchange tasks).

You can; Control Panel|Admin Tools|Computer Management|Action|Connect to
another computer then Properties|Computer Name

I just tried that way; but it only adds the computer description to the
local computer and not into active directory for the whole network. THe
same is locally on my workstation and I change my own computers description
locally, it doesn't change it over the network in active directory.

Some thoughts:
- you can manage AD from XP station if you install adminpak for W2k3;
- you must register dsfolder.dll to browse AD as 'regsvr32 dsfolder.dll' -
copy the file from W2k SP4;
- computer description in Network and AD might differ.

Install terminal services on the server in remote control mode, then use
remote desktop connection in accessories/communications to start a session.

Like vnc, but less flickery and remote clipboard. Make sure you log out when
done though.

Geophelps.
