Remote Administration Terminal Services

Would it be fair to say...installing applications such as server apps...MOM,
SMS, SQL, etc... is not adviseable in a Terminal session?

Somewhere I read and even experienced a problem when installing under
Terminal session...basically, the profile and registry does not get all the
info required to make this applications work....

It's never a good idea to install applications in a terminal services
session. Some applications will install fine without any problems but
there are some that cause problems. Also, because you can't see the
console, you wouldn't know if a warning message has been displayed on
the screen. If you do need to install apps remotely, I recommend using
VNC so that you are actually controlling the console of the server and
not just a session.

(Tip for you younger players... always check the floppy drive before
remotely rebooting a server!)

If you run Windows 2003, you can actually connect to session 0 (=
the console session). Use mstsc /console.

OK, this thread is a bit confusing...
I agree completely with you, JJ, and personally I install
everything at the physical console, never from within a TS
session.

My previous post was meant as an addition/correction to Stuarts
post, since he wrote "because you can't see the console". That
problem is solved in 2003.
