How can I connect to my computer at work using the remote desktop software with windows xp if my computer at work is on a peer to peer network assinged dynamically through a network switch? Our home network consists of a dell wireless router hooked up to DSL. Both locations are DSL. I'd like to set them both up to access remotely.

It can be done although in your situation it is probably going to be more
difficult.

First of all Home log into your DSL router and setup port forwarding to your
PC you want to access remotely for port 3389. You will also need to find out
the IP address being assigned to your DSL router by your ISP. Log into the
router and have a look in its logs or status info. Its generally a good idea
to contact your ISP and see if you can get a static IP address that way if
oyur modem resyncs your going to get the same IP address.

Next Work.
Odds are our work pc is also on a NAT address you will need to get your IT
person or if your IT set port wording up on their router as well pointing to
your work PCs IP address. Next change the DHCP setup at work you your PC
always receive the same IP address.

When you connect remotely you connect to the DSL routers live Internet
address it forwards the request to the internal pc

Setup a vpn & use vnc(ports: 5800 and 5900) on your machine via vpn

If you use VNC through a VPN tunnel you don't need to open TCP Port 5900 or 5800...
