Can you be a little more specific with "Remote Access"? What
exactly did you have in mind?

WinXP does have such tools but Win2000 does not. You need to
use a third-party product such as WinVNC. There are two ways
to do it:

a) By direct take-over. The host PC (i.e. the client's PC) runs a
VNC service that makes his machine accessible to an authorised
user at all times.

b) By reverse take-over. The client clicks a shortcut that opens
his machine up for you to see and to operate.

I prefer option b) for these reasons:
- It is much more secure. Since no take-over software is normally
running on the client's machine, there is no danger of anyone
hacking into it.
- My clients prefer to remain in control instead of having a feeling
that "Big Brother" might be looking over their shoulder. They
initiate the action, not me.

In each case you need to set up a tunnel through a firewall or router.
In option a) the tunnel exists at the client's end whereas in option b)
it exists at your end.

Check the WinVNC site for terms and conditions. Post again if you
need further details.

Hello,
Sorry for being vague...
I want to provide remote desktop administration / helpdesk administration
for home users.
These home users have DSL or cable... Does Win2k have a tool or utility to
support remote access, or do I need to invest in a 3rd-party
tool/utility????
