Remote Access to Domain

Hi all,

I am proposing to enable access to my small AD domain so as to be able to
receive email and files whilst elsewhere. I understand there may be many
security implications that need to be considered, but I currently do not
even know how to go about setting up this option should I decide to.

Would I have to register my domain as a public domain, or just get a public
IP and assign to one interface of a RRAS server? Where do I get a public IP
address from?

Any advice on enabling remote access to my domain please, specifically the
above questions

Thanks

Gerry

If you are connected to the Internet, you already have a public IP
address. It may be a dynamically assigned IP address and may therefore
change. Many ISPs allow you a fixed IP address is you pay them. So your
first approach should be to your ISP.

If you can't get one from your ISP, there are places that will do
dynamic DNS so that you can access your network without knowing the IP
address. Look up DynDNS for example.

If you just want email, you could set up an IIS server and run OWA on it
and receive your mail via the web. If you want files as well, that's
more difficult, and RRAS is probably the best way to go.

Cheers,

Cliff
