I have a computer running windows xp at home, and one at
work, i leave my one at work on all the time, so i can
connect to it and remote use it for work. i sent an
invitation from work to my home one, when i try to
connect it says remote assistance connection could not be
established the remote host name could not be resolved.
but computers have dsl and both are hooked up to routers,
any help i really need it?
You need (if they are hooked to routers and getting private IPs like
192.168.x.x) to setup the router to pass the proper port traffic through the
router. Sending an invitation to yourself will do little to no good unless
someone is at the other computer to allow you to access it... The invitation
can still be rejected at the door. You want Remote Desktop.
You did not say what version of Windows XP (Home or Professional) you have?
Read up here - see if any of this helps:
The Remote Desktop Connection software is pre-installed with Windows XP
Professional. To run it, click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories,
click Communications, and then click Remote Desktop Connection. This
software package can also be found on the Windows XP Professional and
Windows XP Home Edition product CDs and can be installed on any supported
Windows platform. To install from the CD, insert the disc into the target
machine's CD-ROM drive, select Perform Additional Tasks, and then click
Install Remote Desktop Connection.

*****Running Remote Desktop through a router*****
To run remote desktop thought a router at home you will need to enable port
forwarding, the process for this differs depending on the router.
