Reminder for whole group?

I've set up a calendar for our school's Maths faculty in
public folders and given the Maths group ownership
permissions. The head teacher wants to be able to send a
REMINDER to all members of that group for a calendar
appointments. Can this be done & how?

Also every time we add an appointment to the public
folder calendar now it says "the reminder won't be seen
as the item is not in your calendar or tasks list". Can
anybody tell me why it says this?
 
PS - She doesn't just want to use the "invite attendees"
feature - she wants to use the "reminder" feature to
apply to everybody in the group.
 
Without a third-party add-in (see http://www.slovaktech.com), Outlook only
triggers reminders for your default folders. THink about it: How would
Outlook know that you're interested in reminders from a particular public
calendar folder and not others?

The head teacher might want to use a simple email message to send a
reminder; adding a message flag will cause a reminder to pop up on each
person's machine who has that message in the Inbox.
