Remembering columns used in folder

Could anyone suggest a reason why the window that opens when I select
Programs and Features (in Control Panel) will not remember the columns
I have selected for it to display?

When I first installed Vista I believe this window used to display
columns for "Name", "Publisher", "Size" and "Installed On" by default.
For some reason it has since decided to start displaying only the
"Name" and "Size" fields. I can temporarily correct this by right
clicking on one of the column headers and selecting the missing
columns, but after a reboot it seems to forget this selection and goes
back to using it own choice.

I remember there was some trick to get a folder to remember its
settings by holding down the "Alt" key when closing it, but this
doesn't seem to fix the problem in this case.

Sorry, can't help except to say I thought it was Ctrl or Shift+Ctrl+window
close to beat some sense into a view...

But it does provide an opportunity to say that the
inconsistencies/infelicities of of columns, column filters etc. and views
generally is a major annoyance... I was going to quote Manage Wireless
Networks as a case in point, but that looks better all of a sudden...
(though there is no choice of "View").

IMO, if a window is subject to a View you ought to be able to change that
view from a control accessible from that window without trying to find the
object's container... because sometimes they don't have them or they are not
"Customisable". (My C: drive thinks it is "Pictures & Videos"... :( )
