Ran Beta and rebooted. Spyware still there even though
Beta cleaned a bunch of things.

Ran Ad-Aware with same result.

Also SVCHOST abends on startup.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Bill

Did you run a full system scan in safe mode? On the Scan Page in Microsoft
AntiSpyware, choose Scan Options > Full System Scan. Also, before you
restart in safe mode, turn of System Restore. Right click My Computer >
Properties > System Restore (tab) > check "Disable System Restore. The
restart your computer in safe and do the full system scan.

Restarting in safe mode instructions:

windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/boot_failsafe.mspx

.
After running Microsoft antispyware, I ran demos of;
Ad ware se,PC Tools Spy doctor, and AOL spyware
protection. All three found many more spyware and cookies
threats! Whats with Microsoft?

I was having the same problem with the Spyware not being
able to remove all of the Adware and other items that it
identified.

I tried your suggestion of doing the full system scan in
Safe Mode...but when I got into Safe Mode, the Microsoft
Spyware would not operate...it just errored out.

Any ideas of what I am doing wrong?

Hi

Try this:

- Download/Install CCleaner, www.ccleaner.com

- Restart in safe mode

- Run CCcleaner and remove all temporarily junk.

- Run Adaware

- Run MSAS

- Restart

If your fault remains go to this forum and post a HijackThis
log.

Step 7, you must also register.

It is recommended you still run additional antispyware utilities since
Microsoft AntiSpyware one is still in beta and cannot be depended upon or
judged as a final shipping product.

Microsoft Antispyware doesn't scan for cookies in the builds distributed so
far.

When you say the SVCHOST errors out--can you give more details about
that--particularly precise details about the location and name of the
svchost file which is crashing--the question is whether this is a legit
service, or an imposter.
