Relogging in from screen saver(on resume, password protect) many windows open

4 or 5 windows open on logging in from the screen saver password prompt. They are blank windows bearing the titles
"MCI Command Handling Window
"HiddenFaxWindow
"Connections Tray
"MS_WebCheckMonitor
"Acrobat IEHelper
and sometimes other window titles such as my RAID monitor and scanner locator
After using task manager to close the windows (not all show up in the list, but all close when each task is closed.) the display view resets itself and half of my desktop icons are off the screen and most of my tray icons are gone. If I hit OK on the "taskbar and start menu properties" dialog and then hit it again, my icons jump from below the display view to above the display view to their normal positions. Meanwhile I have noticed that IE, if open, also ends up closed although not by me

This is an annoying and weird problem, which has a feel to it like something has attached itself to my login script which might be OK if I was logging in, but not if I am just returning from the screen saver.
