When I installed W2K Server Active Directory I elected to
place some of the data locations on a second partition.
Now I would like to relocate it all to the boot partition.

Can this be accomplished without uninstalling and
reinstalling?

You can move some the AD info using a command line tool called ntdsutil. You
need to boot into Active Directory Restore Mode in order to do this. Search
NTDSUtil on the MS KB and you will find a ton of info.

Thanks Kevin. The "files" part of ndisutil looks like it
will do what I need. But it sure looks like Microsoft
should have a simpler way to relocate something like this.

Leonard,

I would think that this was made somewhat more involved so that people who
might not know exactly what is going on would have a more difficult time
doing it. The same can be said for the Schema MMC. You have to jump
through a couple of hoops to enable it so that you can transfer the FSMO
Role of Schema Master ( or simply use NTDSUtil... ).

The NTDS.dit file is of utmost importance ( to say the least! ) and messing
with this can lead to very disastrous effects.

Just my take on it!

I set up a test server and sucessfully moved the DB and
logs. But during the AD installation there was a "SYSVOL"
directory that I also located on a second partition. It
does not appear that NTDSUTIL is designed to move that
directory.

Is there a way to do that?
