Anyone know anything about the reliability of this indicator on an HP 952
running windows 2000?

I have got a black cartridge showing half full and it has stopped printing
completely. I am a bit worried about whether it is actually half full or if
I can in fact re-fill it or will it have dried out completely and
irretrievably if left empty for more than a few days as suggested elsewhere
on these boards

WHen I took it out, the head LOOKS wet. Does this mean anything? (plus I
put some Pelikan ink-dissolver on the head and left it upside down for a
while) but am wondering if I should try to re-fill it or am I wasting my
time and ink if it has actually been dry for weeks and weeks?

If it has been used in another printer THEN the accuracy will be invalid
when placed in another printer
The indicator is A Drop Counter ...

So it doesn't actually count the amount of ink in a printer: It just
maintains a count of how much use a cartridge is supposed to have had? (my
cartridge has never been in any other printer, showed half full and had
stopped printing: Leaving ink-dissolver on the head with the cartridge
upside down, - which isnt something HP seems to know about, - seems to have
done something: Possibly only temporarily)

The usual quick fix for HP heads in the (very) rare clogging instance is to
put the head in 0.5" hot (70°) water for 5 minutes then dab the head on
several layers of dry tissue to wick the ink out before returning it to the
printer.
