Hi
Does anyone know the expected release date for .NET 2.0??

Simple math will do:
- end march/early april: Beta 2.
- RC date = beta2 date + 4 months
- RTM date = RC date + 3 months

It can be they will keep a short Beta 2 period but I doubt it as the
scope of the complete project is very very very big: VSTS, all the
enterprise designers, yukon's engine has to be the same .NET engine as
..NET 2.0 etc.

So using simple math, based on previous release schedules, I estimate
around end october/early november VS.NET 2005 will RTM. Any earlier date
will surprise me and will show they've cut out a lot at the last minute
to get shorter beta/rc periods. To me, I'd rather see a november RTM and
full feature set than end of september and a rushed / cut feature set,
as every bug / design flaw left in the IDE / framework is hardly/never
patched.

I hope they dont rush it also.

I recently upgraded from VS 2002 to VS2003, expected 'annoyances' to have
been rectified but weren't. I'm still not sure it was worth the 6 weeks of
re-compiling & testing. (Probably should note that it took me a while
because had to also upgrade the 3rd party DevExpress XtraGrid. But then
again if microsoft had taken a little bit more time with the original VS
Datagrid and provided what you would expect to be basic flexibility &
funcitionality, I wouldn't have needed a 3rd party grid in the first place).

That's my gripe for the day.
All the best
Clare

I've also heard fall of 2005. I think we can be almost certain of a
release candidate by the PDC.
