I've been tied up with projects, but I wanted to drop a quick note to share
some news.

October 21 is the official release date of Office 2003 to the general
public! Office 2003 was released to manufacturers yesterday, who will
probably begin shipping with new computers mid to late September.

I have not heard any news about the release of the 2003 PowerPoint viewer
and when that will be.

Thanks, Robert ...

Office 2003 has been released to manufacturing, meaning that Microsoft has
deemed it ready for the public and has shipped the finished code to the
duplicating plants that will make the CDs, package them and so forth.
October 21 is the official release date, so we can probably expect to see
Office 2003 in the stores around that time.

Buy MS Office XP (2002) products between 15 Aug and 30 Nov 2003 and you can
upgrade to
the equivalent Office System 2003 product for the cost of shipping.

Speaking of that newer viewer, I have to make a decision as to what types of
animations we'll be using in an upcoming product. Playing with Ppt XP a few
moments ago I created some motion paths and a pair of continuous elliptical
animations (electrons orbiting a nucleus). The newer viewer will support
these animations, right??? What kind of OS requirements come with this newer
viewer?

John O

p.s. A simple object in a circular animation seems to stutter at its
starting point, rather than fly along at a regular speed. Is this fixed or
can I tweak this away somehow?

So far I have found that the Viewer supports all of the animations just
fine. It will run on Win 98, 2000, and XP. Will not run on NT, W95, or ME.
If you need a verification for your particular animations, shoot me a copy
and I'll test them here (sonia @ soniacoleman . com).

And check the upgrade eligibility - if it was released after Office 95 and
had Office in the name, you're good to go, except for maybe the academic
editions.

Really?! Very very cool.

Err. Might we be missing something here about operating systems?

It only promises that you can upgrade at the upgrade price instead of full
retail.
It doesn't promise that it'll work on Win 3.1 or the like.
But then neither will the full retail version.

Not so much a case of caveat emptor but "don't be silly, emptor"
