After installing Win2000SP4 update, I now have to use the
Office 2000 Professional installation disk to open an
existing Publisher file. Even when opening the same file
again and again, I have to go thru the installation
procedure before it will load the file and open it. How
annoying is this? EXTREMELY! Also, after installing SP4 I
had to reinstall each and every existing program I wanted
to open. Anyone got any ideas on how to overcome this mess
without uninstalling SP4?

Hey George,

Thanks for the lead. I downloaded the InstMsiW.exe as
suggested and got this message: the file already exists.

It would seem that the installer is corrupted. I'd like to
find a way to reinstall it or repair it. What gripes me
most is that one cannot get to a Windows tech to complain
or get help unless a payment is made. They make the SP4,
it messes with original applications, and they avoid the
results.

SP4 downloaded fine for me and corrected the problem is
was getting: "Svchost.exe has generated errors and will be
closed by Windows."

Thanks again,

Mike

Hi Mike,

Had a the same problem with Office except SP4 didn't
install. I found SP4 killed the Windows Installer. I
installed SP2 then installed Windows Installer 2.0 and
that fix the Office problem. It may be worth a try for you
to download the 2.0 and give it a try.
