I've tried to reinstall Windows XP Pro (caught a Blaster
virus through our 30-second old ADSL connection), but as I
haven't set up any restore points in the past, the only
thing I can do is an "upgrade". Strangely (maybe due to
the virus?) when I start the installation, it tells me
that some of the files (swenum.sys for example) cannot be
copied. Is this a common issue, caused by the virus or
just a scratch on my CD? if it is my CD, how do I get a
new copy of it?

Thanks
Marton

Hi Marton,

You don't need to do a reinstall, you just need to fix the damage done by
blaster. Information:

http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.blaster.worm.html

You need the patch described here to protect against it:

MS03-026: Buffer Overrun in RPC Interface May Allow Code Execution
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=823980

Problem is, you needed to install the patch BEFORE you got infected to avoid
it. When you go back on line to get the patch, make sure your firewall is
enabled first.
