Computer starting to get slugish and would like to
reinstall xp. Can I reinstall without having to format hard
drive so all settings are preserved? If so how is this done
or where can I find the directions for doing it?
If I have to format hard drive where can I find proper
directions for that?
Thanks, Walter

Walter,

If you purchased XP and have the CD, simply insert the CD
(if it starts, close it) then shutdown xp and restart
your computer. The CD should start and you'll have a
menu that takes you through the steps which will format
and install a clean copy of xp. If the CD doesn't start
up on the restart, you'll have to go into your bios
(usually by pressing the del key during bootup---but
before xp starts and adjust your boot sequence to boot
only from the CD, save the settings and exit. Be careful
here and don't do it if you are unsure)

If you did not purchase XP, and it came installed on your
computer, you will have to contact the company that made
your unit and inquiry about a "restore" CD and the
procedure for using it.
