I reformatted the hard drive. Do I have to contact
Microsoft to reactivate? Someone said it will only work
for 30 days if I do not reactivate.

Thanks

See http://aumha.org/win5/a/wpa.htm. However, if you have an OEM system, you
may, or may not be required to reactivate as some tie the licence to the
BIOS which means that, unless you change the motherboard for something
different, the licence is permanently activated (IIRC).

Only if you change a siginificent ammout of hardware.
Tell the someone, you were the brighter bulb in the group for verifying the
information and the thirty days is only offered on the first install or if
it is installed after 120 days. If you reinstall the SP1 version, you will
get a 3 day grace period to activate if it less than 120 days.
