I had been having big problems and someone took me back to factory settings
and uninstalled everything on my pc. I now don't have
Windows/excel/powerpoint and don't know what else I've lost. I tried putting
in the original Windows disc to install again and it keeps saying that it
can't install it because I have a more uptodate version(!) Help - any ideas.
I am not very IT so please bear this in mind if anyone can help.

Caroline - regarding "...it keeps saying that it
can't install it because I have a more uptodate version(!)...." It means
that you have XP with Service Pack 2 installed (Considered an upgrade) and
the XP CD you have does not include SP2.

Regarding "...someone took me back to factory settings..." - how did they
accomplish that?

When a computer is "restored" to factory default (if in fact that was
done) - meaning restoring the original programs and "stuff" with which the
computer came. Any programs you installed after purchase must be
reinstalled.

Yes, I did install SP2 ages ago but was having probs so uninstalled it. I
have just had a look at my programs in explorer I can still see the folder
"Windows" and on opening it there is a long list of "uninstalled items
(coloured blue) of gobble de gook". I tried clicked on one of them saying
uninstall SP2 and it comes up with "if I continue I could cause probs to a
long list of things." Is it safe to do this and if I do can I use my
original disc to reinstall Windows XP? The guy who took me back to factory
settings just uninstalled things to my knowledge.
